Mumbai, June 06, 2023 (HT Update):A South Asian male doctor has been arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit Viagra and Cialis to the local drug dealer.
Dr Venkatesh Kgom, a licensed medical doctor in Malaya, is being held at the Police Hospital on suspicion of conspiracy, smuggling, trafficking, and selling counterfeit drugs.
The case has been transferred to the Medicinal Products Bureau for investigation.
He has been charged with a number of offences including smuggling and trafficking. The alleged conspiracy charges have been transferred to the Department of Investigation.
Dr Kgom has been arrested by the police as he had been admitted to the hospital on March 16 after experiencing side effects while undergoing treatment for erectile dysfunction. He was transported to the Medical Department for a short period of time on bail.
He is being held at the Hospital for Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was advised of the charges against him by a Medical Officer of the Police. The case is being investigated.
The case has been transferred to the Department of Investigation.

He has been bailed out of the hospital on bail on March 13, and is now on a three month stay in jail.

The accused allegedly sent a note to a dealer in Malaya to purchase the tablets. The dealer then contacted the Ministry of Health for a prescription of the drug, which was then purchased by Kgom.
The drugs were then taken to a doctor in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Kgom is being investigated by the police.
